KeepKey is pleased to announce that we have updated the beta version of our KeepKey client software and device firmware.
This release offers full support for Bitcoin Cash (BCH). BCH was forked from Bitcoin earlier this month. Anyone who was holding Bitcoin at the time of the fork automatically received BCH.
If you were holding Bitcoin in your KeepKey on August 1, 2017, congratulations, you have Bitcoin Cash. When you open the Bitcoin account in the KeepKey Wallet software, you will see that Bitcoin Cash listed at the bottom. The “Send” button next to your Bitcoin Cash balance allows you to send it just like any other cryptoasset supported by KeepKey.
Note: Do not intentionally send Bitcoin Cash to a Bitcoin account. You cannot access a transaction listing for Bitcoin Cash that is contained in a Bitcoin account. From a Bitcoin Cash sub-account, the only things you can do are send, exchange with ShapeShift and hodl.
If you want to do more with your Bitcoin Cash, create a Bitcoin Cash account. Here is how:
- Click the ‘Add Account’ button in the bottom right corner of the KeepKey client
- Select BitcoinCash from the drop-down
- Select “Add Account”
After you click the ‘Add Account’ button on the wallet listing, select BitcoinCash from the drop-down
The Bitcoin Cash account will be added to your account list.
When you open the account you can send, exchange with ShapeShift, receive and view the transaction listing.
If you are not interested in hodling Bitcoin Cash, we made it easy for you to convert your BCH to Bitcoin with Shapeshift. Simply go to your Bitcoin account, click the send button for Bitcoin Cash and use ShapeShift to exchange into Bitcoin.
To send your BCH to your BTC account, select your BTC account from the drop-down in the destination field of the send screen
For those of you who have been anxious to get Bitcoin Cash support for your KeepKey, we sincerely appreciate your patience. It has been the top priority for KeepKey in the last few weeks and we are excited to be able to release it.
Since this is a beta release, you may find a few rough edges. If you find something that is unclear or incorrect, please let us know at email@example.com.
Users that already have the beta release of the KeepKey client installed will receive the update automatically. If you do not have it, but want to try it, you can install it from the Chrome store. (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/keepkey-client-rc/ndpjhnboalogfiafbknodggihfiedibo)
